Nut

Available on backorder

Description :

A nut is a hardware fastener with an internally threaded hole designed to mate with a bolt or screw to secure components together. They primarily work by creating a clamping force through thread engagement, stretching the bolt slightly to lock parts in place.

Features :

  • Body: The external shell of the nut, typically hexagonal (6-sided) to provide a good grip for tools like wrenches and sockets.
  • Internal Threads: Spiral grooves that match the bolt’s threads. Key thread components include the crest (top ridge), root (lowest point), and flank (side connecting crest and root).
  • Bearing Surface: The flat bottom face of the nut that makes contact with the part or washer being fastened.
  • Chamfer: A slight bevel or curve at the edges of the hex body, which helps prevent sharp corners and assists in tool engagement.
  • Lead-in Thread: The first few threads at the opening of the nut, often slightly counter-bored or tapered to help start the bolt without cross-threading.
