Description

An orifice spud (short for “natural gas orifice spud”) is a precision-drilled brass or aluminum component that regulates the flow of natural gas into a burner. It acts as a metering device, ensuring the correct volume of gas enters for controlled combustion and specific heat output.

Features

  • Gas Regulation: The diameter of the hole (measured in millimeters or drill sizes) determines the BTU (heat) capacity of the burner.
  • Fuel Specificity: Natural gas (Nat) orifices have larger openings than propane (LP) orifices because natural gas operates at lower pressure and contains less energy per cubic foot.
  • Mounting: They typically feature male threads to screw directly into a gas manifold or supply tube.
  • Identification: Most spuds are stamped with a numerical code (e.g., “71N” or “104N”) indicating their size and fuel type
